the rules:
Twelve American strangers sequester themselves in the Big Brother House where everything is recorded and broadcast, yet they have no contact with the outside world. Using their wit, charm, a dash of cunning, sometimes salacious social skills, and, above all, the mighty cranium, they remove each other from the house in an attempt to remain the last person standing to collect a prize of $500,000.

Sounds simple? It's not.

origin:
Big Brother USA mutates, it seems, each season. In turn, the rules deviate from the original concept behind the global reality series. Endemol, a Dutch television production company, created Big Brother to sell as an interactive game that would allow the audience at home to participate actively in the storyline. Like Orwell's character in 1984, Big Brother, audience members were to watch the players' every move. Endemol officially launched the show to the Netherlands in 1999. In their original concept, the game called for nine house guests to enter a house. Inside they were deprived of their basic realities and left at the mercy of the producers and audience, while their every move was shown across the internet to the viewing audience. Food and entertainment were rewards they needed to pursue as a group. At the same time, each individual attempted to remain in the house the longest and not face eviction. For the first time in television history, Big Brother was a game show to fully meld Internet, television, and telecommunications in one; thus, providing an interactive element for the viewing audience at home.
